Like his famous colleague Ludwig van Beethoven, the virtuoso violist Franz Weiss composed a remarkable set of string quartets for the Russian diplomat Count Andrey Razumovsky. While Beethoven’s “Razumovsky” Quartets are beloved by audiences, Weiss’s have been all but forgotten—until now. Working from a carefully reconstructed edition by Penn State’s Dr. Mark Ferraguto, the Toronto-based Eybler Quartet presents the modern premiere of Weiss’s magnificent Op. 8 quartets.
